Electric adjustable beds to trade and direct to the public.

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

The year is 2011 and the American and European economies are in recession. Many businesses, both retail and manufacturing have suffered the results of the credit crunch. With unemployment rising, taxes rising, fuel and the cost of living escalating it is not surprising that luxury items that worried buyers can do without are the obvious casualties. Although an adjustable bed is a luxury item it is also in many cases an essential purchase and can be surprisingly inexpensive.

It is widely assumed that an adjustable bed is an extremely expensive bed. This is the result of a handful of unscrupulous companies. These companies sell their beds by obtaining leads through various methods such as competitions in a magazine to win something.  The next thing you know, you have a pushy sales guy in your home selling you an adjustable bed at an extortionate price. I have heard of people paying over three thousand pounds for a single adjustable bed. If you have been the victim of this practice or have experienced a relative get ripped off then feel free to add your story and warning by clicking the comments at the end of this article.

Monday, July 11th, 2011

NEW ‘No Sweat’ Mattress Protector BANISHES SWEATY DREAMS – SIMPLY! NO sweat – a good night’s sleep just got a lot less sweaty thanks to the folks at High & Dry Waterbeds and Back Care Beds, Portsmouth.

Their latest product – ‘No sweat Mattress Pad’. The anti perspiration mattress protector helps turn a sleeper’s worst nightmare in to a sweat-free experience, night after sweat-free night. Now that has got to be the coolest news for thousands of sweat-plagued sleepers.

Using the latest spacer fabric technology, High and Dry’s innovative new ‘Anti Perspiration Mattress Pad’ aims to enhance the sleep of every owner of a waterbed mattress, adjustable bed mattress and conventional divan mattress– simply and at great value that won’t cause ripples.

Like most effective, science-driven breakthroughs, this one fuses simplicity with industry-leading research and with proven results, you can wave goodbye to uncomfortable tossing and turning caused by sweating in bed. Attractive, 3D-style, spacer fabric is easy to fit and guaranteed to add to your quality of sleep whether you have a temperature-controlled waterbed or an adjustable bed.

Key to the product’s success is the manufacturing process which features vertical strands for optimum loft, and air circulation literally creating an air gap between the mattress surface and your body.

Death of the high street from a waterbed and adjustable bed retailer.

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

A short story cut long!

Should we move the retail of waterbeds and adjustable beds from Southsea high street to our factory in Chichester?

High & Dry Waterbeds had it’s first waterbed shop in the Tricorn shopping centre, Some of you may remember it. That was in 1989 twenty two years ago. Electric adjustable beds and nursing care beds were introduced shortly after and so High & Dry Waterbeds became High & Dry Manufacturing Ltd.

Rather than throwing money away paying rent, High & Dry Waterbeds purchased a retail shop on Milton Road, Portsmouth. Back Care Beds purchased the shop on Elm Grove, Southsea. At the time both were good thriving high street locations.

It is assumed that we must find a solution to the decline of the high street but maybe it is just evolution. Why is it such a problem that the local butchers close?

Thirteen years ago we took the decision to merge our two shops for a number of reasons. Firstly was a severe lack of parking, and as we were so close to Portsmouth football ground, on a weekend when Pompey were playing at home parking was almost impossible. (more…)

No Sweat Mattress Pad

No Sweat Mattress Pad

A common disturbance to a good night sleep is sweating. The cause may be that you have a mattress that does not allow air circulation between yourself and the mattress surface, or that there is no air circulation within the mattress itself. A ‘No Sweat Mattress Pad’ is the best mattress protector to give mattress ventilation. The way the ‘no sweat mattress pad’ works is to simply create an air gap between you and the mattress surface

If it is so wonderful, why did no one think of it before?

Until recent advances in material technology, most mattress protectors were made from a combination of polyester and cotton (poly cotton) with a layer of polyester fiber quilted in between. This serves its purpose quite well as the fiber layer creates an air gap which does reduce the sweat problem. Unfortunately laying on the mattress pad or mattress protector compresses the fiber and so it is no longer a breathable mattress protector. The ‘no sweat mattress pad’ is different and is only made possible through very recent technological advances. This hi-tech material solves the problem of sweating by actually creating an air gap and maintaining an air flow even when you are laying on it.

In these pictures it is possible to see how the air gap in the ‘No Sweat Mattress Pad’ is created by a pile yarn holding the soft top and bottom layers apart

Cheap single & twin electric adjustable beds Manufactured in Hampshire

CHEAP ADJUSTABLE BEDS

I will begin with a little warning about the expression ‘You get what you pay for’. This is quite often the case. Example, a cheap 500 piece socket set made in China for £5.00 and twenty litres of diesel. What did you expect when the ratchet slipped on the first nut you tried to undo? However, there are unscrupulous firms that have literally cashed in on this expression. By over inflating their prices to the public and some impressive marketing, customers are led to believe that the more they spend the better the product. An example which is totally unrelated to adjustable beds which hopefully means I am less likely to get in trouble again. Stella beer, the marketing is great, the slogan ‘reassuringly expensive’

But ask any of the lads what pint they really fancy, and it will be one of the normal cheap beers. Sorry, none of the beers are cheep anymore.  The one that will order the Stella is the one trying to impress his mates that he is a connoisseur even if he hates the taste Back to the adjustable beds.

Cheap adjustable beds

Wednesday, May 11th, 2011

Cheap adjustable beds on the internet are exactly what they say except they don’t mention cheap quality. It is possible for an manufacturer to cut out the wholesaler to reduce the price. Retailers are not in the same position, and I won’t say “fortunate position”. Adjustable bed manufacturers supply retailers and work on very small profit margins only to be told that they will not buy from them  if the manufacturer sells direct to the public. The reason is simple, after adding the retail profit margin and accounting for the colossal overheads of a retail shop, there is no way that a retailer can afford to compete with the adjustable bed manufacturer.

So how does a retailer reduce their selling price? Simple, reduce the buying price of the adjustable bed mattress and base. The manufacturer is already supplying at a low profit margin in order to compete, so to reduce the price he must reduce the quality. Something has to give, you can’t get something for nothing. (more…)
